Information About Ruby Melton:
Ruby Melton is a lifestyle and event photographer and film maker who currently resides in Washington, DC. Her love of photography was first ignited through travel. On her return from a volunteer trip in Costa Rica with Girls Going Global in the summer of 2014, Ruby first got the idea to create BGWAC. After noticing that there were no outlets on social media and especially Instagram for women of color photographers, she decided to create a platform herself. It began as a fun effort to celebrate the work of women of color photographers around the world and connect the community.
Over a year into the venture and 5,000+ followers later, BGWAC has morphed into an amazing resource for the community. Ruby hopes that through her efforts with BGWAC, women of color photographers will have a voice and be represented in an industry that has yet to take notice. The mission is to empower brown girls with a camera, everywhere.
