Janell M. Hickman began her career in fashion when she left her native Minneapolis to join WWD as an intern in New York. She quickly moved on to the Victoria’s Secret headquarters, where she assisted on the legendary 2008 and 2009 fashion shows that starred iconic VS Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Doutzen Kroes, and Selita Ebanks.
Using her natural gift for editorial storytelling, Janell then joined ESSENCE Magazine as a Fashion/Beauty Editorial Assistant; this experience led to a stint at HL Group, managing prestige fragrance and skincare accounts. Next came a return to the print world, as the Associate Beauty & Grooming Editor at Ebony Magazine. Janell dived into the world of e-commerce serving as the Senior Women’s Editor at GILT, responsible for creating compelling content for top luxury fashion and beauty brands including DVF, kate spade new york, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel.
Most recently, Janell was BET Digital’s beauty editor, overseeing news coverage and creating original content for the new STYLE vertical. Additionally, she writes original beauty pieces for notable digital publications, including The Coveteur, StyleCaster, Allure, SELF, Teen Vogue, Man Repeller, and many others.
